Inmate Attempts To Hang Herself In Mahaska County Jail

On Wednesday, July 24th, 2019, at approximately 9:50 pm a female inmate of the Mahaska County Jail was found hanging in her cell. Jailers cut the inmate down from her hanging position and immediately started life-saving measures on her. The inmate was transported by the ambulance service to the Mahaska Health Hospital. She was then flown to Mercy Medical
Center in Des Moines where she is listed in critical condition. The jail was assisted by members of the Oskaloosa Police Department, the Mahaska County Conservation Board and the Mahaska County Dispatch Center during this initial incident.

The inmate is identified as 33-year-old Krysta/ Lynn Doud of Searsboro, Iowa. Doud was being held in jail on the following charges: Forgery, Identity theft, various drug charges and Parole Violation. The investigation into this matter is continuing and the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office is being assisted by the Division of Criminal Investigation.
