Improving Central volleyball side fights for win
CHICAGO, ILL.— The first win of the 2018 Central College volleyball season came via a sweep over Kalamazoo College at the Gargoyle Classic hosted by the University of Chicago Saturday.
The Dutch (1-2) took all three sets from the Hornets (0-3) by margins of 25-21, 25-21, 25-23.
“We are pumped to get the first win of the season and get it done in three sets. We still have a lot of work to do but we definitely saw positive progress from day one to day two.”
A total of 15 service aces made a big difference between for the Dutch as right side hitter Melissa Miller (senior, Williamsburg) and libero Brooke Caves (junior, Oskaloosa) each had four. Caves had 18 digs, while Miller and outside hitter Landry Luhring (freshman, Grundy Center) has 13 apiece.
“We did a much better job competing with our serve and pass game, but there is certainly room for improvement,” Czipri said. “I felt like we were beginning to know our roles on the court and learn how to play with the person next to us.”
Luhring led the way with eight kills while outside hitter Krissa Larson (freshman, Waverly, Waverly-Shell Rock HS) and middle hitter Erin Dilger (junior, Tinley Park, Ill., Lincon Way North HS) had six.
“This group is hungry to learn, which is such a blessing for any coach,” Czipri said. “I am so eager to see how much we can retain and execute as the season progresses.”
Central will open the home calendar on Tuesday, September 4 for a 7:30 p.m. contest against Iowa Wesleyan University.
