Hazel Boomershine

Hazel Boomershine, 91, of Oskaloosa and formerly of Delta, died Thursday, May 24, 2012, at Oskaloosa Care Center in Oskaloosa. She was born April 25, 1921, at Montezuma, Iowa, the daughter of William and Minnie Walker McKeag. She graduated from the Delta High School with the class of 1940. On May 12, 1940, she was united in marriage to Vern Boomershine at Waterloo; Vern died March 20, 1996. She worked at the restaurant in Delta for nearly 20 years. She retired when she was 62 years old. On January 1, 1998, she moved from Delta to Oskaloosa. Hazel was a member of the Delta Christian Church, the Delta Garden Club, and the C.W.F. She enjoyed gardening and cooking.

Her family includes her children, Ray “Boomer” (& Marilyn) Boomershine of Oskaloosa, Cheryl (& Robert) Baughman of Delta and Dennis Boomershine of Oskaloosa; 7 grandchildren, Joanne Rempe, Julie Boomershine, Tony Boomershine, Joy Wills, Lisa, Angela, and Kurtis Boomershine; and 9 great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Della Louise McKeag, Margaret White, Alice Kriese, and Pauline Bensler; and three brothers, William, James, and Harold McKeag.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 26, 2012, at 10 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend James Bringman officiating. Burial will be in the Garrett Cemetery near Delta. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin Friday after 11 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 6-8 Friday evening to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to the Delta Christian Church.
