Grace Poe, 72, of Oskaloosa passed away, Saturday morning, October 31, 2015, at the MHP Hospice Services Serenity House in Oskaloosa.
Grace Ann Poe, daughter of Clyde and Rosa (Kersey) Beaver, was born January 6, 1942, in Iowa City, Iowa.
Grace was raised in the Harvey/Durham area and attended Knoxville High School. She worked at Oskaloosa Produce until her marriage to Dwayne Poe, December 23, 1960, in Harvey, Iowa. Grace and Dwayne lived in the Eddyville and Red Rock areas before making their home in Oskaloosa in 1967.
She and Dwayne were blessed with three sons. She was also mother to her eldest granddaughter, MaKayla Poe. Grace’s purest desire and calling in life was to support her husband Dwayne in his ministry; they were a team in every way. She and Dwayne held tent revivals in the Harvey, Oskaloosa, and the Des Moines area. They served in the Assembly of God Church in Delta before serving in the First Church of the Open Bible in Oskaloosa; where they have served for the last 30 years. She and Dwayne had a beautiful musical ministry as well; she sang while Dwayne accompanied her on his guitar. For the last five years, they have held Sunday afternoon services at Oskaloosa Care Center and have seen many come to know Jesus.
Grace truly enjoyed her home as well, she loved tending her garden and growing flowers. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed baking treats for her family and friends. Crocheting, knitting, and watching old westerns were things she enjoyed in the evening. The inspiration and source of strength for her life was the time she spent with her Savior and His word each morning.
Her family includes her husband, Dwayne of Oskaloosa; her three sons and daughters-in-law: Easman (& Becky) Poe of Beacon; Norman (& Elizabeth) Poe of Ottumwa; and Billy (& Meredith) Poe of Sigourney; three granddaughters: MaKayla, Shalyn and Megan; three grandsons: Dakota, Tracey and Brandon; two brothers: Gene Beaver of Newton, and Roy Poe of Oskaloosa; and a sister, Doris Chambers of Oskaloosa.
In addition to her parents, Grace was preceded in death by four brothers: Ted, David, Charles, and Paul Beaver; and a sister, Delores Martin.
Funeral Services for Grace will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 4, 2015, at the First Church of the Open Bible on Old Highway 163 with Rev. Norman Tosten officiating.
Burial will be in Highland Cemetery near Eddyville.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m., Tuesday, November 3, at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel; the family will be present from 5-7 p.m. to greet visitors.
Memorials may be made to the First Church of the Open Bible for Exodus II purposes.
