GET READY TO ROCK ‘N’ ROLL WITH MEMPHIS THE MUSICAL
OSKALOOSA, IA — Turn up that dial! Winner of four Tony Awards including Best Musical, the professional tour of Memphis will burst onto stage at the George Daily Auditorium on Tuesday, March 24 at 7:30 p.m.
Don’t miss the biggest and last show of the Daily’s 2014-2015 professional season! With explosive dancing, irresistible songs, and a thrilling tale of fame and forbidden love, this Broadway musical is filled with heart, soul, and energy!
Inspired by actual events, Memphis the Musical is set in the places where rock and roll was born in the 1950s: the seedy nightclubs, radio stations, and recording studios of the musically-rich Memphis, Tennessee. With an original score, it tells the fictional story of DJ Huey Calhoun, a good ole’ local boy with a passion for R&B music and Felicia Farrell, an up-and-coming singer that he meets one fateful night on Beale Street. As their careers rise, their relationship is threatened by personal ambition and the objections of their loved ones. Will their love be able to withstand the trials of separation, greed, and fame?
Semi trucks will bring everything Memphis needs – set pieces, props, costumes, and more – to the George Daily Auditorium early Tuesday morning. A local crew of 40 people will help Memphis’ crew of professionals unload and set-up throughout the day, then tear down immediately following the performance. After the last equipment has been loaded onto the truck, the production is on the road to their next destination.
Come along on their incredible journey to the ends of the airwaves – filled with laughter, soaring emotion, and roof-raising rock ‘n’ roll! Tickets are $35 for adults and $15 for students. Get a group together and take advantage of the group discount! Tickets are available from the George Daily Auditorium box office in person or by calling 641-672-0799 or online at www.georgedaily.org.
Memphis is sponsored by Musco Lighting and C.L. Barnhouse. This presentation is supported by the Arts Midwest Touring Fund, a program of Arts Midwest that is funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, with additional contributions from the Iowa Arts Council and General Mills Foundation.
