Earl Stout, 77, of rural Rose Hill, Iowa passed away Wednesday afternoon, June 3, 2015, at his home.

Hubert Earl “Earl” Stout was born, April 11, 1938, in Mahaska County near Rose Hill, Iowa to Charles Evan and Genevieve (Hollingsworth) Stout.

At an early age his family moved to a farm between What Cheer and Delta that belonged to Hugh Stout and he attended Garrett Country School. The family moved to Oskaloosa when Earl was twelve and he attended school in University Park. The family’s next move was to Wright, Iowa and Earl attended his freshman year at Oskaloosa High School. The family then moved to Delta, IA where he attended Delta High School for his sophomore and junior years.

At age 17 he joined the Navy. He attended boot camp at Great Lakes, IL and then served at the Naval Base in Norfolk, VA. He was discharged in March 1958.

After returning home, Earl started working for Garden Engineering as a dragline operator. July 10, 1959, Earl married Elizabeth Ann Brown at St. John Lutheran Church in Oskaloosa, Iowa. They lived in Oskaloosa for two years and then bought their first home, located on ten acres, four miles west of Oskaloosa. To do this they borrowed $500 on a 1955 Chevy for a down payment. Earl left Garden Engineering and went to work at PAMCO in Oskaloosa. October 18, 1963, their first daughter, Brenda Kay, was born. Their second daughter, Sherie Elizabeth, was born June 6, 1965. Earl left PAMCO in 1965 and worked at both Durham and Kaiser Rock Quarries. September 1968, Earl went to work at Pella Corporation, then called Rolscreen. He remained there for 33 ½ years and retired in April 1999.

Earl was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and a past member of the Isaac Walton League. He enjoyed trap shooting and competed in several tournaments, earning numerous trophies. He also was a NASCAR fan, and especially enjoyed watching the Earnhardts races. Earl loved the outdoors and his acreage was his little slice of heaven. Hunting, fishing, trapping and searching for mushrooms were things he liked, but his role as grandpa and great-grandpa was what he treasured the most.
