Dozen Statesmen Named Scholar-Athletes
Oskaloosa–Twelve members of the William Penn women’s soccer team were honored for their excellence in the classroom as they were named 2024 Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes.
The duo of Madeline Danielson (Sr., La Crescent, Minn., Biology) and Jacque Schwager (Sr., Bondurant, Iowa, Psychology) guided the group with 4.0 Grade Point Averages entering the fall.
Alison Van Schaik (Sr., Waterloo, Ontario, Biology) was next at 3.96 with Joy Pagel (Jr., Maring-Noviand, Germany, Psychology) also above 3.9 at 3.93.
Emma Brandt (So., Cologne, Germany, Sports Management) (3.86), Lina Regadane (So., So., Ijmuiden, Netherlands, Business Management) (3.84), and Lacie Kirkle (Sr., Altoona, Iowa, Business Management) (3.80) were all in the 3.80-3.89 range, while Olivia Walker (Jr., Caro, Mich., Biology) (3.77), Leilani Kalilikani (Sr., Covina, Calif., Nursing) (3.74), Luca Szucs (Jr., Gyor, Hungary, Exercise Science) (3.74), Lilly Cote (Jr., Sioux City, Iowa, Psychology) (3.60), and Anna Sporman (Jr., Flint, Mich., Sociology) (3.50) also met the criteria for the award.
The honor is the third for Danielson, Kalilikani, and Kirkle, while Cote, Pagel, and Walker are all now two-time recipients. The remaining group members are all first-timers.
To be eligible for the award, athletes must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above on a 4.0 scale, have attended the nominating institution for one full year prior to nomination, and must appear on the sport’s eligibility paperwork.
