David Walker, Sr., 71, of Delta, died Thursday, December 15, 2016, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. He was born Monday, May 7, 1945, in Mahaska County, the son of Earl and Dorothy Blake Walker, Sr.
David attended West Center Country School and Oskaloosa High School. On September 21, 1963, David was united in marriage to Linda Fleener in Oskaloosa.
Following school, David went to work at New Landing Coal Company. He later worked road construction, Mich Coal Company and at Superior Ideal. Lastly, David worked at Vermeer for 22 years until his retirement in 2002.
David loved being outdoors especially hunting, fishing, trapping and being on the river.
David is survived by his wife, Linda Walker of Delta; a son, David Walker, Jr. of Sigourney; two daughters: Lori Armstrong of Ottumwa and Lynette Gordon of Oskaloosa; eight grandchildren: Anthony Walker, Chelsie Osborn, Kameren and Keirsten Gordon, Kyson and Kyron Smith, and Khia and Faith Walker; two great grandchildren, Alexa and Aiden Jochims; four sisters: Joyce Fox of New Sharon, Dorothy (& Gary) Van Dyk of Colorado, Karen (& Jack) Bowen of University Park, and Mary Sue Sigler of Oskaloosa; three brothers: Earl (& Peg) Walker, Jr. of Oskaloosa, Gary (& Virginia) Walker of Oskaloosa, and Stephen (& Janet) Walker of Oskaloosa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Charlie Moore; and two sisters: Marilyn Walker and Lugene DeJong.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday, December 20, 2016, at 1:30 P.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Roger Neumann officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa.
Visitation will begin Sunday, December 18, 2016 after 11 A.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa and the family will be present at the funeral chapel Sunday from 1 – 3 P.M. to greet friends and relatives.
