Darlene Baughman, 83, of Oskaloosa passed away Saturday afternoon, November 29, 2014, at Crystal Heights Care Center in Oskaloosa. Darlene Evelyn Baughman was born on the family farm outside of Chariton, Iowa, December 8, 1930, to Harmon Earle and Letitia (Bailey) Erickson.

Darlene graduated from Chariton High School and for a brief time worked in the art department of the Washington Post in Washington, D.C. She married William Baughman, June 14, 1953, and they made their home in Oskaloosa. In 1954 she gave birth to twin sons, Jeffrey and Jonathan; sadly Jonathan lived only a few hours.

She spent the rest of her adult life as a homemaker. She was an amazing artist, painting many beautiful pictures that her family treasures.

Darlene was a member of the Oskaloosa congregation of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, and over the years helped many people in the community gain a better understanding of the Bible.

Darlene is survived by her husband, William; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Kathy Baughman; two grandsons: Patrick (& Diane) Baughman and Christopher (& Chelsie) Baughman; four great-grandchildren; two sisters: Martha Blaylock and Marie Bolibaugh; a brother, Robert Erickson; and a sister-in-law, Vonda Baughman. She will be fondly remembered by several nieces and nephews and many friends.

In addition to her parents, Darlene was preceded in death by an infant son, Jonathan; and a brother, Dale Erickson.

A memorial service will be held at a later date followed by a private burial in Forest Cemetery.
