Darla Owens, 58 of Montezuma passed away Tuesday evening, March 16, 2021 at the UnityPoint Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines from cancer. Darla Sue Owens was born on March 6, 1963 in Grinnell Iowa, the daughter of Charles Olson and Virginia “Ginny” (Dingeman) and Don Simpson.
Darla graduated from Montezuma High School in 1981.
On October 8, 1988, Darla was united in marriage to Danny Owens at the Montezuma United Methodist Church. To this union two children where born, Adam and Abby.
Darla received her nursing degree from Indian Hills Community College in July of 2000. She worked at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center from 2000 to 2008. Darla found her passion in nursing and worked as a hospice nurse from 2008 to 2014. From 2014 to 2018, she worked as a traveling nurse at many different hospitals throughout the Midwest. She then began working at Montezuma Specialty Care in 2018. Darla loved being a RN and was extremely compassionate with her patients. She often formed a special bond with their families as well. She was adamant that her patients received the best care possible.
Darla was an animal lover and often adopted strays. She cared for many, many animals throughout the years but had a sincere loved for her cats. She’s read thousands of books, loved spending time outside tending her flowers, and enjoyed cooking and canning food from her garden. Darla enjoyed listening to music, especially old country. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and spoiling her grandsons, Cooper and Lincoln.
Her memory will be honored by her husband, Danny Owens of Montezuma; her son, Adam (& Breann Hubler) Owens of Montezuma; her grandchildren, Cooper Owens and Lincoln Owens; her sisters, Debbie (& David) Brothersen of Davenport, Dawnetta (& Greg) Baethke of Nevada, Dee Dee (& Dan) Phillips of Montezuma; her brother, Christopher Olson of Buckingham, IA; her sister-in-law, Dee Dee Owens Miller of Wentzville, MO; her brothers-in-law, Donny (& Vicky) Owens of Des Moines and Shad (& Christine) Owens of Des Moines; her father, Charles Olson of Grinnell; and many close nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Darla was preceded in death by her parents, Don and Virginia “Ginny” Simpson; her daughter, Abby Owens; and her Parents-in-law, Dan and Katherine Owens.
A Celebration of Life will begin at 10:30 am Saturday, March 27, 2021 at the Community Hope Church in Montezuma.
A reception/luncheon will follow the service in the fellowship hall of the church.
