Chad Messerli, age 36, of Oskaloosa, passed away on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at the Mercy One Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Chad was born on August, 3, 1984 in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Martin and Deborah (Main) Messerli.

Chad was home schooled and received his G.E.D. On August 26, 2006.

Chad was united in marriage to Brandi Hegwood at Edmundson Park in Oskaloosa. To this union 2 children were born, Raiden and Karleigh. Chad and Brandi later divorced.

Chad worked at the call center in Oskaloosa for a time. He enjoyed his work and excelled at his job until illness made it no longer able for him to continue working.

Chad was a devoted member of the Gateway Church of the Nazarene in Oskaloosa. Chad’s children were the center of his life, he enjoyed attending their activities and spending time with them.

Chad is survived by his children, Raiden and Karleigh Messerli of Oskaloosa; his mother, Deborah (& Dale) Gyolai of Knoxville; 2 sisters, Melissa (& Ben) Yoder of Iowa City and Wendy (& Jerry) Kelsey of Gilbert, AZ; his grandmother, Benita Messerli; his nieces and nephews, Abigail, Byron and Riley Yoder and Shiphrah and Gideon Kelsey; and many aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his father, Martin Messerli; his paternal grandfather, Paul Messerli; his maternal grandparents, David and Marianne Main; and a cousin, Dez Messerli.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 8, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. at the Gateway Church of the Nazarene in Oskaloosa with Pastor Darren Melton officiating.
Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
According to the rules put in place by the Iowa Department of Public Health, proper social distancing and reasonable personal protective equipment is advised for attending a religious public event.
The funeral will be posted to the Bates Funeral Chapel’s YouTube page for those unable to attend.
Visitation will begin Monday, March 8, 2021 beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the Gateway Church and the family will be present from 12:00 p.m. to service time at 1:30 p.m. Monday to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the Chad Messerli Memorial Fund to be used for Chad’s Children or the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
