Cathern DeBooy, 94, of Oskaloosa, passed away Wednesday, September 23, 2015, at Southern Hills Specialty Care Center in Osceola. She was born March 22, 1921, in Mahaska County the daughter of Arie and Patrina Boender Vander Linden.
On September 20, 1940, Irene was united in marriage to Kryne “K.C.” DeBooy, in Oskaloosa. K.C. died June 18, 2004.
Cathern worked at home until her daughters were in school. She then went to work at Lytle Insurance until her retirement.
Cathern was talented at using her hands to embroider and crochet. She was also a gifted quilter, making quilts by hand for family and friends on special occasions. She was a member of First Christian Church where she was a member of Ruth Circle.
Her family includes her two daughters: Beverly (& Bill) Konas of Medina, Ohio and Donna Crookham of Oskaloosa; five grandchildren: Diane (& Kevin) Crookham-Johnson of Oskaloosa, Linda (& Frank) Crookham-Hansen of Oskaloosa, Karen (& Gil) Brucken of Medina, Ohio, Beth Crookham of Wilmington, North Carolina, and David Konas of Verona, New Jersey; two great grandchildren, Max and Ruby Johnson of Oskaloosa; five sisters: Hazel Klein of Oskaloosa, Mildred Wenger of Columbia, Missouri, Wilma Ver Steeg of Oskaloosa, Lena Patterson of Oskaloosa, and Bernice Bias of Columbia, Missouri.
In addition to her husband, Cathern was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Pauline Spain and Betty Springer.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 26, 2015, at 10 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Michael Omundson officiating.
Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation with the family will be held Saturday morning from 9 until service time at 10.
Memorials may be made to Ruth’s Circle at First Christian Church in Oskaloosa.
