Central College

INDIANOLA — Central College senior men’s golfer Kacie Broeg (Burlington, Notre Dame HS) is tied for fifth after an opening round 73 in the 50-player field Simpson Spring Invitational Monday.

“Kacie grinded all day and put together a decent round,” said coach Jon Olson.

Central is sixth of eight teams with 304, Iowa Conference foe Nebraska Wesleyan leads the invitational after posting 292.

Senior Brock Morris (Manchester, West Delaware HS) shot 74, sophomore Nash Bucher (Huxley, Ballard HS) had 78, freshman Nick Walker (Naperville, Ill., Neuqua Valley HS) fired 79 and freshman Spencer Welch (Hubbard, South Hardin HS) carded 80 on the par-71, 6,369-yard Indianola Country Club.

“Brock hung in there after an early double (bogey) and found himself tied for eighth,” said Olson.

Olson knows his team has depth and is trying to find the right combination of guys heading into the conference tournament.

“The depth is there and now it’s my job to find the right group to plug in for conference,” he said.

The country club is the host site of the final two rounds of the league tournament May 5-6.

Invitational play continues Tuesday with a 9 a.m. shotgun start at The Legacy Golf Club in Norwalk.
