Anne Carol Ciska, age 67, of Albia, IA, passed away on Thursday, August 25, 2022, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, IA. Anne was born on April 7, 1955, in Marshalltown, IA, to Sam and Phyllis (Schooler) Guthrie.
Anne grew up attending school in Albia, graduating from the Albia High School with the class of 1973.
On August 4, 1973, she was united in marriage to Jim Ciska and to this union, 2 children, James and Samantha, were born. Anne and Jim later divorced.
Anne attended John Taylor Community College in Richmond, VA, and later Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, studying to become a Physical Therapy Assistant. She worked as a Physical Therapy Assistant at Lucas County Hospital in Chariton, IA, for many years. Anne also bartended at Murph’s Sports Bar in Albia and bartended/managed the KC Hall in Albia for several years.
Anne enjoyed being outdoors, especially flower gardening. She also enjoyed knitting and made numerous baby blankets and scarves to share with others. Anne was very social, loved to visit with others and always had an infectious smile. Her true joy in life was spending time with her family and friends.
Anne is survived by her children, James (& Kari) Ciska of Quinton, VA and Sam (& Quenton) McDonald of Albia; her longtime friend, Danny Wasko of Albia; 6 grandchildren: Dacoda McDonald, Kamryn (& C.J.) Hancock, MaKenna (& Aron) Hinz, Trenton McDonald, Shelby Snopak, and Morgan Ciska; 2 great grandchildren, Haydenn Hancock, Sienna Ortiz, and a baby boy on the way; and a foster sister, Pauline Zuke.
Anne was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Phyllis Guthrie; a brother, Jeff Guthrie; and a sister in infancy, Gail Guthrie.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 1, 2022, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Anne’s family present from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. to greet family and friends.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
An open memorial has been established to be determined at a later date.
