Akway Improves on Return Trip to Nationals

Charlotte, N.C.–Ochaung Akway (Sr., St. Paul, Minn., Physical Education) concluded his collegiate cross country career with a solid outing at the NAIA Men’s Cross Country National Championships Saturday.

The senior, who was making his second appearance at nationals, finished 204th out of 326 runners in a time of 26:59.8 on the 8K course at McAlpine Creek Park. Akway bettered his 2014 time by over 25 seconds and his position by 12 spots.

Geoffrey Kipchumba of William Carey (Miss.) won the individual crown with a time of 23:55, more than 19 seconds faster than his next-closest competitor. Oklahoma City won its third-straight title with 78 points (all five scorers in the top 43). Saint Mary (Kan.) was way back in second with 168 points.
