OSKALOOSA LIONS CLUB RECEIVES BOOK GRANT

The Oskaloosa Lions Club received a grant of 100 books Friday. Lion Susan Stearns (pictured on the right) drove to Camp Dodge in Johnston, Iowa, to receive the books, which were granted by the Pi Beta Phi Fraternity of Service of Des Moines.

“We are thrilled and excited to receive these books thanks to the generosity of the Pi Beta Phi Fraternity,” said Stearns.

“We are so appreciative of the Lions Club for getting the books to the kids who will benefit from them,” said Colette Noble, organization liaison for Pi Beta Phi Des Moines Alum Club.
Oskaloosa Lions will distribute the books as part of Lions Clubs International’s Reading Action Program. The local Lions typically give the books to preschoolers during the club’s KidSight vision screening projects. The Oskaloosa Lions Club will be conducting a KidSight screening during the Kindergarten Roundup at Oskaloosa Elementary School March 11-12.

KidSight and the Reading Action Program are just two of the many service projects the Oskaloosa Lions Club does during the year. The Oskaloosa Lions Club meets at 6:30 p.m. the 2nd Tuesday of each month at the Oskaloosa Public Library, third floor meeting room C. Membership in Lions Clubs is through invitation only. If you are interested in becoming a Lion, call Lion Debbie Doty at 641-673-4173 or visit a club meeting.
