Moore Notches Second All-America Honor of Season
Oskaloosa–Lakyla Moore (Jr., Norfolk, Neb., Business Management) doubled up on national recognition as the NAIA announced its Women’s Basketball All-America teams Thursday.
Moore, who received honorable-mention status, was one of 41 individuals to make the HM list. Additionally, 12 players were named to each of the first, second, and third squads. Moore’s award is the 26th All-America accolade in William Penn history; she was also chosen as a WBCA Honorable-Mention All-American earlier this week.
It marks the sixth-straight season in which WPU has had an All-American. After not having a single A-A from 1992 through 2008, the program has tallied 14 such honors in the past 13 campaigns.
Moore finished the season averaging a squad-best 16.5 points per game in addition to 4.2 rebounds, a team-high 44 steals, 32 assists, and two blocks. She shot 39.8% from the field (31.6% 3-PT) and 68.6% from the free-throw line. The junior, who was sidelined for four of the team’s games, reached double figures in all but one contest this year.
Moore posted a season-best 31 points against Peru State on November 21. Nationally, she ranked 27th with 2.8 steals per game.
Stefanie Berberabe of national champion Westmont (Calif.) was named NAIA Player of the Year, while her head coach Kirsten Moore collected Coach of the Year laurels.
