Tragic Accident in Poweshiek County
A fatal accident occurred southeast of Guernsey on May 24, 2024. Sam Schaeffer, 11, was driving a 2016 Polaris Ranger Crew when the vehicle lost control on a curve at 230th St and 450th Ave, rolling into a ditch. Nolan Bayer, 13, suffered fatal injuries. Schaeffer was airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals by AirCare. The Iowa State Patrol is investigating, assisted by local emergency services.
