Oskaloosa, May 24th, 2011 – The Oskaloosa Y’s Men’s Club was chartered in the 1950s to work with and serve the Mahaska County YMCA. The club is still actively filling that mission, almost 60 years later. The Y’s Men’s Club has about 20 members actively involved in service projects, fundraising, and more. To support their service activities, the Y Men’s Club has a Christmas tree sale every year in the Mahaska Drug parking lot.
The club just donated $1,200 to the annual Y scholarship campaign and $1,500 to the Y Bruce Sedrel Summer Camp facility at Lake Keomah. The club also supports the Y through volunteer service in cleaning the camp site every spring and fall. “The Y’s Men’s Club is a wonderful organization created to support the Y mission. I am so appreciative of their service and support,” said Dawn Collins, Y executive director. “I just learned that Oskaloosa has one of the last few Y’s Men’s Club remaining in Iowa. There are only a handful left and we are blessed to have the group.”
The purpose of the Y’s Men’s Club, an international organization, is to be a worldwide fellowship of men and women of all faiths working together in mutual respect and affection, based on the teachings of Jesus Christ, and with a common loyalty to the Young Men’s Christian Association, striving through active service to develop, encourage and provide leadership to build a better world for all mankind.
