Virginia Sherburne, 86, of Oskaloosa passed away early Sunday morning, August 11, 2013, at Mahaska Health Partnership in Oskaloosa.
Virginia Eileen Sherburne, daughter of Wilbur Cecil and Eva Pearl (Moore) Barnhill, was born February 27, 1927, in Oskaloosa, Iowa. She was a 1944 graduate of Oskaloosa High School. She married Rex D. Sherburne, October 2, 1944. They made their home and raised their two children in Oskaloosa. Over the years she worked at numerous places including: Alsop’s – as a child’s clothing buyer, Mahaska County Treasurer’s office – in the Auto Department, the personnel dept. secretary at Clow Valve Company, a bookkeeper at the Stafford Insurance Agency, as a realtor associate at Star Realty and she will be remembered by many for the years she worked at Kentucky Fried Chicken.
Virginia volunteered for many years with the Girl and Boy Scouts when her children were young; she was a member of the American Legion and V.F.W. Auxiliaries; the Central United Methodist Church and C.U.M.W., a charter member of Mahaska Traveling Chiefs camping club and a former member of Oskaloosa Business and Professional Woman’s Club, and the Silver Spurs square dance club.
Virginia’s family includes her daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Paul Nichols of Richland, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Eric (Kristen) Fox of Oskaloosa; Kelli Pacicco of Glendale, AZ; Jessica Ferguson, Angela, Elizabeth, Jonathan and Benjamin Sherburne; and many great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Rex on December 18, 2001; her son, Rex Lee on March 11, 2013; a great grandson, Andrew Hart; and a sister, Ruth Day
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday afternoon, at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Tom Boomershine of Central United Methodist Church officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m., Tuesday, at the funeral chapel; the family will be present from 5-7 p.m. to greet visitors.
