Vinny Curta named to All-MWC Men’s Basketball 1st Team
GRINNELL, Iowa – Vinny Curta ’19, who has enjoyed a stellar season for the Grinnell College men’s basketball squad, was rewarded today by being named to the All-Midwest Conference First Team.
Curta, a 6-5 guard from Oak Lawn, Ill. (Dwight D. Eisenhower), helped the Pioneers to a 16-7 record this season. Only 11 teams in the program’s 117-year history have reached 16 victories.
Curta ranks fifth nationally and second in the MWC in scoring with 25.2 points per game. He is also second in the league in assists and steals with averages of 5.0 and 2.0, respectively.
Curta also ranks among the league’s top six in field goal percentage, free throw percentage and assist-turnover ratio.
He finished the season with 175 made free throws and 226 attempts, numbers that are both fourth all-time for a season at Grinnell.
Ty Sabin of Ripon College was named MWC Player of the Year, Gary Grzesk of St. Norbert the Coach of the Year and Jon Anderson of Cornell College as Newcomer of the Year.
