Trio of Double-Doubles Leads Jones to POW Honor
Oskaloosa–The double-double machine that is Torren Jones (Sr., Chandler, Ariz., Sociology) was rewarded for an exceptional week as he was named Heart of America Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week Monday.
Jones collected his third weekly laurel by averaging 23.3 points and 14.0 rebounds per game as William Penn (25-3, 21-3 Heart) won all three of its contests to lock up the league crown.
The senior added to his double-double tally (now at an NAIA-leading 22) with three last week, highlighted by scoring 34 points and pulling down 18 rebounds against Graceland Saturday. He was 14-for-15 shooting in that contest, leading to a jaw-dropping 80.0% clip (28-for-35); Jones also made both three-pointers he shot and was 12-for-15 at the line.
Jones also finished with five assists, three steals, and one block.
For the year, he is averaging 19.7 points and 12.4 rebounds in addition to 33 assists, 24 steals, and 20 blocks. The senior is shooting 54.1% from the field and 73.1% from the charity stripe.
The award is the third of the year for WPU.
