William Penn University Athletics

Oskaloosa–Three members of the William Penn Competitive Dance team were honored for their excellence in the classroom as they were named 2016-2017 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes recently.

Madison Mitchell (Sr., New Sharon, Iowa, Elementary Education), with a 3.91 Grade Point Average, Kaitlyn Pearson (Jr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Kinesiology), with a 3.59 GPA, and Paige Smith (Sr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Elementary Education), with a 3.82 GPA, all earned the honor. They are among a list of 47 dancers from within the NAIA to be awarded the laurel.

The award is the second for both Mitchell and Smith, while Pearson is a first-time recipient. Pearson also competes on the cheer squad as well.

To be eligible for the award, athletes must be of at least junior academic standing, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above on a 4.0 scale, and have attended the nominating institution for at least one full academic year.
