This Day in Weather History February 20
1997: Unusually heavy rain fell across about the southeastern third of Iowa from February 20-21 with the highest amounts occurring southeast of a line from Lamoni to Clinton. Some of the highest reported two day rainfall accumulations included 2.56 inches at Wapello, 2.59 inches at Leon, 2.62 inches at Donnellson, 3.18 inches at Fort Madison, and 3.40 inches at Keokuk. The heavy rain combined with snow melt from preceding warm weather to produce flooding across the area.
