The Marching Pride of Oskaloosa in tight competition in Class 3A
The Oskaloosa Marching Pride enjoyed a picture-perfect marching weekend Saturday, October 11, 2014 at Valley Stadium in West Des Moines. The band competed in ValleyFest for the day show and Showdown for the evening show.
For ValleyFest the Marching Pride took 4th place in Class 3A out of 11 bands, and received the Class 3A caption awards for Best Horn Line and Best Soloist (Macy Milledge). Macy also received recognition as the best soloist overall in the competition, beating out 23 other bands for the award. The band has tight competition this year, receiving 65.3 points for 4th place. The 3rd place band, Saydel, finished with 65.4 points, 2nd place, Dallas Center-Grimes finished with 65.6 points and 1st place, Winterset, topped Class 3A with 68.7 points.
Showdown proved to be another tight race in Class B competition. Oskaloosa finished 6th out of nine bands with 56.3 points, only .1 away from 5th place Saydel at 56.4 points. Dallas Center-Grimes finished 4th with 58.6 points. 1st place was Waseca (Minnesota) with 82.8 points, 2nd place Pella with 82.8 points and 3rd place Independence. The Marching Pride took 18th place overall out of 25 bands, and improved two places in the overall standings from last year.
The Marching Pride rounds out the marching season this weekend with State competition in Pella, IA, where they will go for their 44th consecutive Division I rating. They will then travel to Ankeny, IA for the Mid-Iowa Band Championships, where they will compete against six other Class 3A bands.
