Taylor on First Team, Rohling Again an Honorable Mention

Oskaloosa–A pair of strong frontline players were recognized for impressive 2011 campaigns as the all-Midwest Collegiate Conference volleyball teams were announced Tuesday.

Outside hitter Lacey Taylor (Jr., Cedar, Iowa Western CC) was one of 14 players to be named to the first team, while middle hitter Brittany Rohling (Sr., Thayer, Kan., Neosho CC) was part of the 14-player honorable-mention squad.

The duo helped William Penn to a 19-23 record (3-6 MCC) this fall.

Taylor, a four-time weekly honoree (two hitter, two player) recorded team highs in kills (435) and attack percentage (.334). Her attack percentage also led the entire MCC. The junior added 23 assists, 41 aces, 494 digs, and 52 blocks.

She recorded 18 double-doubles (kills and digs) and set a new school single-match record with an .800 hitting percentage (12 K, 0 E, 15 TA) against Calumet-St. Joseph (Ind.) on October 21. Taylor notched a season-best 22 kills against Buena Vista on September 28.

Rohling, now a two-time honoree led the defense with 128 blocks (17 solos, 111 assists). Her offensive output was solid as well, tallying 349 kills with a .279 attack percentage. She also produced 18 assists and 67 digs. The senior posted a season-best 17 kills against Mount Mercy on September 7.

Devon Jensen of Grand View was named MCC Player of the Year for the third season in a row, while teammate Charmin Anderson was awarded Newcomer of the Year accolades. Jordan Blaken of Viterbo collected the Libero of the Year nod and Setter of the Year laurels went to Catherine Wildner of St. Ambrose. Tina Carter picked up Coach of the Year award.
