Supervisors Consider Road Work Projects And Additional Security For The Courthouse

October 19th, 2022

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Mahaska County Board of Supervisors met in a regular session on Monday, October 17th, 2022, at 9 am in the 3rd-floor conference room.

The Board considered a contribution to ISAC for a soil compaction test. The amount of the County’s contribution would be $600.

Board member Chuck Webb said that he believed that enough people in Mahaska County were against the proposed carbon pipeline, the investment would be in order.

Chair Mark Groenendyk raised the concern that the money would be returned to the County if the study didn’t occur.

The Board tabled the issue until their November meeting.

The Board then considered a couple of road projects, the North Skunk Bridge and Overflow Bridge, with aid from Federal Aid.

The need to fix the bridges was accelerated because of the heavy traffic placed upon them due to Highway 92 being closed.

The second project is repaving from Eddyville to Cedar, with the project slated to start in the spring of 2023.

The Board then considered installing a camera facing the front door of the Mahaska County Courthouse for just over $1300.

The issue was first brought up in the security meeting held by area officials. The County already owns the camera; the cost would come from the installation of the camera and the server space to host the camera.

The move would address the lack of coverage at that critical access point into the building.

The Board approved the measure unanimously.
