(OSKALOOSA, Iowa) – Steven Dawley, class of 2011, is receiving the William Penn University 2017 Athletic Hall of Fame Award for his skill and leadership. During the 2007–2010 seasons, the team excelled on the ground, tallying some of the best rushing statistics in the history of the program and in the NAIA. To put it simply, current William Penn University Head Football Coach Todd Hafner describes Dawley as, “the best offensive lineman this staff has ever coached.”

Dawley had an impressive impact on the program, being an intricate part of turning the program around under Coach Todd Hafner. During his career, as a Statesmen, the team was 29–16 and tied a school record for most wins in 2010, going 10–1. The team also won their first conference crown since 1976.

“It’s a great honor to be inducted into this group of great athletes, it’s very surreal,” said Dawley as he reflected on the honor.

William Penn University appreciates the dedication and service of many alumni and community supporters. It is representative of the values William Penn aims to instill in all students. Each year at homecoming, individuals or groups are selected to be recipients of the awards. Dawley is one of three inductees to be recognized for their tremendous athletic accomplishments.

William Penn will honor Steven Dawley at the 2017 Athletic Hall of Fame Reception held during homecoming week. Dawley will receive his award on Saturday, September 30, at 9:30 a.m. at the Penn Activity Center (PAC). He will be officially inducted during halftime of the William Penn University vs. Avila University football game at the Lacey Complex Stadium.
