Statesmen Women Ninth, Men Receiving Votes in NAIA

Oskaloosa–The William Penn bowling teams both took a bit of a hit in the rankings, but are still in the mix as the second set of NAIA top-10 coaches’ polls were released Thursday.

The WPU women are tied for ninth with 32 points, while the men are just outside the top 10, tying for 11th with 24 points.

Pikeville (Ky.) tops the women’s rating with 63 points and three first-place votes, while SCAD Savannah (Ga.) (two first-place votes), St. Francis (Ill.) (final first-place nod), Midland (Neb.), and Indiana Tech round out the top five.

SCAD Savannah is a unanimous #1 for the men with 66 points and all six first-place votes. Indiana Tech, Hastings (Neb.), Martin Methodist (Tenn.), and Lawrence Tech (Mich.) complete the top five.

Both programs are also fairly high within all divisions in the collegebowling.com rankings. The women are 29th (1,629 points), while the men are 48th (1,512 points); the rankings only include tournaments through November 3, which is part of the reason both squads are down the list as they had only rolled in three events at that time. Just four other female teams have played in the same amount of events (or fewer) than WPU, while seven have competed in the same or fewer than the men.

In the entire nation, Pikeville is still first with 3,102 points, while Mount Mercy, St. Ambrose, Midland, and Wichita State (Kan.) finish off the top five.

McKendree (Ill.) is #1 for the men with 3,734 points, while Lincoln Memorial (Tenn.), Webber International (Fla.), Bowling Green (Ky.), and SCAD Savannah round out the top five programs.
