Oskaloosa–The William Penn women’s golf team capped a wonderful fall season with an exclamation point as it competed at the Dalton State Roadrunner Invitational Monday and Tuesday.
In an event that was shortened by one round down to 36 total holes, #25 WPU placed sixth out of 15 teams at 648 (323-325). Guided by the top two players in the field at one-under par, host and #2 Dalton State won the tourney title at 602 (302-300) at the par-72 North Nob Golf Course.
WPU’s effort helped it finish in front of three ranked teams, including #4 SCAD Atlanta (Ga.), #4 Cumberlands (Ky.), and #19 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.).
Elise Warne (Jr., Melbourne, Australia, Exercise Science) and Helene Larsen (Jr., Viborg, Denmark, Business Management) headlined the navy and gold charge as they tied for 19th (78 players) at 159. Warne carded rounds of 80 and 79, while Larsen signed off on scores of 82 and 77.
Megan Rhoads (Jr., Schertz, Texas, Psychology) was just a shot back of her teammates, tying for 23rd at 160 (79-81). Brittany Evans (So., Fernley, Nev., Business Management) was next at 170 (82-88) to place 46th, while Brooke Fletcher (Sr., Atlantic, Iowa, Business Management) tied for 55th at 174 (85-89).
“We knew this was going to be a tough field and we wanted to see where we were as a team,” Head Coach Chris Pierson said. “We once again proved that we have a lot of weapons. We played a good tournament, ending the fall in a great way!”
