Severe Weather Once Again Possible In Mahaska County This Afternoon

This shed became airborne during a wind storm that passed through Mahaska County on May 21st. Now is a good time to check your buildings and other outdoor fixtures, from patio equipment to propane tanks, to make sure they don't become missiles that will harm you, or your neighbors.
Consider it “round one” of severe weather that moved across the area last night.
A severe storm rumbled it’s way through the county shortly after 10:00 p.m. last night, causing damage to some mobile homes in the Beacon area, tree limbs to be thrown violently, and dangerous lightning.
The intersection of South I and West 2nd in Oskaloosa shows the power of the wind that hit Oskaloosa last night. The reported 60 mile per hour winds also caused awnings and canopy’s around the city to fail, but the worst of this may not yet be over.

A frontal boundary will shift east through the state today. By early afternoon the boundary will be stretched across the center portion of the state. Thunderstorms are expected to erupt along the boundary with severe storms likely. Very large hail, damaging winds and a few tornadoes are all possible. The National Weather Service in Des Moines is informing most of Eastern Iowa to be on the watch today for very large hail, damaging winds and possible tornadoes. This weather system will coming through this afternoon. With area graduations taking place is various gymnasiums around the area, it would be advisable to pay attention to your surrounds in the event that an emergency would happen. Schools should have emergency plans in place and be able to instruct you in the event of an emergency.
