Season Ends With 4-1 Loss to St. Ambrose

William Penn Women's Athletics

Oskaloosa–The 2011 women’s soccer campaign concluded Friday night with a 4-1 loss to St. Ambrose in Midwest Collegiate Conference play.

William Penn (2-13-1, 1-7 MCC) entered the contest aware it was unable move up in the standings and therefore would not be competing in the league’s postseason tournament. While they tried, the Lady Statesmen unfortunately could not give their seniors a going-away present in their collegiate finale.

St. Ambrose (9-6, 7-1 MCC), who owned a 28-6 edge in shots, got on the board early with goals in the sixth and ninth minutes. The Queen Bees scored once more to make it 3-0 at halftime.

Senior Brittany Hajicek (Grand Prairie, Texas, Mansfield Timberview HS) had a bittersweet Senior Night as she cut the deficit to two with a shot from over 30 yards out that just cleared the outstretched hands of goalkeeper Kerry Hardiman at the 48:59 mark.

The goal was Hajicek’s first of the year, while the assist went to fellow senior Dana Tamos (Victoria, Australia, Ringwood College).

That was all the offense the home team could produce, however, while the visitors added one more goal to secure the win.

Lauren Terrell (Sr., Chandler, Ariz., Chandler HS) paced William Penn with three shots in her final game, while Ali Parks (So., Omaha, Neb., Central HS) saved nine shots on the night.

The 2011 senior class was seven deep, including Amanda Brown (Gilbert, Ariz., Gateway CC), Rita Garcia (Chandler, Ariz., Gateway CC), Hajicek, Brittany Rouze (Ottumwa, Ottumwa HS), Tamos, Terrell, and Melisa Wink (Brookfield, Ill., Lyons Township HS).
