Richard S. Paxton, 68, of Oskaloosa died Thursday, March 31, 2016, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. Richard was born Friday, December 19, 1947, in Hayesville, Iowa, the son of Merle and Geneva VanOrsdall Paxton.
Richard attended school in Fremont.
Richard worked at McCurdy Seed in Fremont in the 60’s, worked as a maintenance man at McDonald’s in Oskaloosa during the 90’s, and lastly, he worked for Clow Valve Company in Oskaloosa for over 17 years.
Richard had a deep love for the Lord. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, building bird houses, hunting with Terry and their friend Chuck Eklofe and playing POGO games. He was a member of 1st Assembly of God Church in Oskaloosa.
He is survived by two brothers: Terry (& Nancy) Paxton of Oskaloosa and Dennis Paxton of Fremont; a sister, Debra Paxton of Fremont; two half-brothers: Rodney Paxton and Norman Paxton both of Muscatine; his nieces and nephews: Penny (& Brian) Lingle, Bridgette (& Christian) Schilling, Jayme Paxton, Jennifer Paxton, Lucinda (& Norman) Blād, Jeff (& Stacy) Paxton and Ron (& Angie) Paxton; 12 great nieces and nephews: Taylor, Riley and Jordan Paxton, Allison, Landen and Vanessa Blād, Samantha and Madison Lingle, Courtney, Ryder, Treyton and Brody Paxton; and a great great niece, Charlotte Elder.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Don Kaufman; four brothers: Larry, David, Robert and Danny Paxton; and a sister, Shirley Paxton.
Graveside services and burial will be held Monday, April 4, 2016, at Van Orsdall Cemetery, west of Ollie, at 12 noon with Reverend Michael Dotson officiating.
Visitation will begin Monday after 10 A.M. in the Fremont Funeral Chapel and the family will be present at the funeral chapel Monday from 10 – 11 A.M. to greet friends and relatives.
A procession will form at 11:10 A.M. at the Fremont Funeral Chapel for those wishing to go to the cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Richard Paxton Memorial Fund.
