Reading Garden Fast Becoming A Reality For The Oskaloosa Library

Proposed reading garden could soon become a reality at the Oskaloosa Public Library

The vacant lot that is directly across from the main entrance of the Oskaloosa Public Library will soon become a lush garden featuring a gazebo to read and share your favorite books in.

The site is .07 acres and will feature, as said, a gazebo structure with amphitheater seating and other park benches that will provide room for everyone to enjoy the outdoors. It will also feature wireless internet access and a butterfly garden filled with bushes, perennials and native prairie plants. The public address system will have speakers that resemble rocks so that the whole package blends well with the environment. Temporary “learning centers” will be used in the area to help with educational summer programs.

Those that have been a part of the planning to this point are Suzette Streigel, ISU Extension horticulturist; Dan Brice, landscape designer; Kevin Molyneux the city parks keeper; Linda Fox, children’s librarian and Wanda Gardner, the Oskaloosa Public Library Director.
