Passerby Spots Smoke And Wakes Homeowner

Firefighters responded to the home of Brian Playle Wednesday morning for a fire in the attic

Oskaloosa, Iowa -A person passing by the home of Brian Playle caught sight of smoke coming out of the roof vents of the residence, located at 1402 South Second Street in Oskaloosa, at around 8:10 Wednesday morning.

Bob Mitrisin called authorities and then woke the homeowner, Brian Playle, who was sleeping and alerted him to the danger, possibly saving him from injury or worse.

Oskaloosa Firefighters got the call around 8:13 and arrived to find an attic fire that was currently smoldering; but with increasing winds it could have quickly gotten worse.

The 10 firefighters were on the scene for about an hour and half and were assisted by the Oskaloosa Police Department and Mahaska Health Partnership Emergency Services.

A preliminary investigation points towards the fire being accidental as a light bulb overheated some insulation.
