ELSAH, ILL.— An outburst of 21 shots on goal allowed the Central College women’s soccer team to find the back of the net four times en route to a 4-0 win over Principia College Friday night.

The win puts Central (5-1) back on track after suffering the first loss of the year earlier in the week. Principia falls to 1-5.

“Overall, it was a good team win,” coach Mike Koblyinski said. “We’re glad to have another clean sheet.”

She took six shot attempts, and only two were on target, but the final one hit pay dirt for forward Erin Manion (sophomore, Delafield, Wis., Kettle Moraine HS) who scored off an assist from Mikaela Erickson (sophomore, Spring Lake, Mich., Western Michigan Christian HS) as the game’s final goal.

“Erin was very deserving of the goal,” Kobylinski said. “She is one of the hardest wokers that we have.”

In the first half, Sarah Casterline (freshman, Belvidere, N.J.) recorded her first collegiate girl from distance, taking advantage of midfielder Felicia Roppe’s (senior, Council Bluffs, St. Albert HS) assist, and giving Central a 2-0 lead at the halfway point.

“Sarah had a bomb of a goal,” Kobylinski said. “Felicia provided a quality assist.”

Central also was given an own goal in the second half and saw Kallie Holte take the team lead with her fourth goal of the year in the first half.

“Kallie had the performance of the year,” Kobylinski said. “She was engaged and one of the best players on the field.”

Central’s final scoring effort came courtesy of an own goal by Principia.

Splitting time in goal and switching at halftime, Taylor Golt (freshman, Crystal Lake, Ill. Prairie Ridge HS) and junior Sadie Jones (Creston) secured a clean sheet.

“I was very happy to get Sadie in goal,” Kobylinski said. “She is a great leader.”

The two-game road swing against the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference continues against Westminster College Saturday in Fulton, Missouri at 6 p.m. The Dutch defeated the Blue Jays 4-0 in Pella last season.
