Oskaloosa Resident Faces Burglary Charge For Allegedly Stealing Soda

Oskaloosa, Iowa – An Oskaloosa man, David Lloyd Corbett, 32, is facing Burglary 3rd degree charges, which is a misdemeanor, after being accused of stealing 8 (2) liters of Pepsi from Pizza Hut in Oskaloosa.

In the signed affidavit obtained by Osky News as was written by arresting officers. “On the 15th Day of January, 2012 at 10:50 pm. Officers of the Oskaloosa Police Department were advised by [Mahaska County] Deputy Poe that a suspicious vehicle pulled into the Pizza Hut parking lot and pulled behind the shed and turned off its headlights. Officers arrived and observed a vehicle bearing Iowa plate [Edited out plate number]. The defendant was identified as the person inside the vehicle. The defendant first advised officers that he was an employee and had forgotten his wallet. Officers observed an eight pack of Pepsi 2 liters in the back seat of his vehicle.”

“Officers spoke with the store manager and were advised that the defendant was a former employee and had not been employed at Pizza Hut for several months. The defendant admitted to entering the business through the front door by forcing it open. The defendant also admitted to stealing the eight (2) liters of Pepsi that were in his vehicle. The defendant stated that he had not been employed at Pizza Hut since April of 2011.”

Corbett is scheduled to appear in Magistrate Court on January 25th and was released on personal recognizance.

A criminal charge is merely a criminal charge and not an indication of guilt. All suspects should be considered innocent until proven guilty.
