Oskaloosa Firefighters Respond To Early Morning Fire

Fire destroyed this vacant home in the early morning hours of October 22, 2011

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Oskaloosa Fire Department responded to an unoccupied home located at 1706 205th in rural Mahaska County.

Oskaloosa Fire Chief Mark Neff said his department was called out around 4:15 am, to the vacant home.”It was fully engulfed when the first engine got there”, Neff said about the fire when firefighters arrived.

Two engines responded along with the brush truck that was used to knock down fires that were springing up from embers that were landing in combustible grassy area’s, with 8 firefighters on scene for an hour and a half.

The 1.064 square foot home, built in 1878 looks to be a complete loss.

The cause of the fire is currently undetermined while the investigation continues into the cause of the fire.
