Oskaloosa Cross County At Class 3A District Meet
Knoxville, Iowa – The District Cross County Meet is now in the books, and Pella came out on top in both the boys and girls team scores with Grinnell 2nd in boys followed by Knoxville. Besides Pella, Williamsburg and Benton finished 2nd and 3rd respectively in girls.
Brooke VanHouweling ran to a solid 3rd place and is qualified for the State Cross County Meet in class 3A with a time of 15:47.2.
Coach Comfort forwarded along these comments after the meet. “Brooke ran a great race, jumping into the top 5 early and working her way up to 3rd. She ran a very solid race and ran 20 plus seconds faster than when we ran here a few weeks ago. It is a great reward for her to be able to run at the state meet again this year.
Kelsey had a great finish to her season and that was a plus for her, as she has battled some health issues this year. I though that all our girls did a great job to finish 6th in the meet. There were some really good runners there and we competed hard. This team has improved all year and I was happy with the finish. Paige and Lesley have been solid performers all year and Meghan showed some great improvement over the last couple of meets and ran almost a minute faster than she did on this course a couple of weeks ago.
We wish Brooke the best of luck at state next week.
The boys had a good performance with all seven runners getting under 20 minutes tonight. They have worked hard all year and competed well tonight. With 6 freshman on the team, we are very young and we will learn from tonights meet. This was a very competitive meet with some very good runners. I think we made some good progress this year and will come back stronger next fall. With Skylar and Spencer we have a great 1-2 at the top of our lineup and just need to improve in the other spots to be competitive. This is just an awesome group of kids”.
