Oskaloosa City Council Approves 3.5% Sewer Rate Increase
Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Oskaloosa City Council met with one of its largest agendas to date, that brought about a fair amount of discussion between the council members.
The first item up for a motion of approval was the parking lot rental for Hy-Vee’s yearly green house. The future of the agreement between Oskaloosa and Hy-Vee met with a large amount of discussion as to what long term solution can be hammered out to meet the legal requirements of all parties involved.
The rent for usage of the lot would have been $500 a month, but meeting all the parking space requirements that are promised contractually needs to be looked at, especially since the skate park was recently added.
The item was tabled with the hopes of Hy-Vee and the City being able to figure out a long term solution.
The council approved a resolution supporting the Mahaska County Habitat for Humanity application for funding with the Ahead Regional Housing Trust Fund.
Also approved was a resolution approving an engineering services agreement with Garden and Associates for the Highway 432 pavement rehabilitation project, (the road in front of Modern Floor Covering leading to the round-a-bout by the Oskaloosa Elementary School) in the amount not to exceed $41,000.
Oskaloosa City Engineer Akhilesh Pal stated this portion would be for Phase 1 of the project that would be just the design. In the end, after the 3 phases of the project are completed, the price would be several hundred thousand dollars.
Next item approved was a resolution approving the first addendum to management agreement between the City of Oskaloosa and Harvest Point LLC along with Matt Sherlock, PGA Professional.
The addendum involved making sure there was insurance coverage, in case there was damages to the property. The City still owns the buildings and will have insurance on those to protect itself.
Also approved was a resolution approving an asset sale between the City of Oskaloosa and Harvest Point Golf Course LLC.
The final agenda item was the resolution to increase sewer rates by 3.5%. Since the amount being increased is over 3.0%, the rate increase needed to go before the council for approval. The new rate will be effective starting March 1, 2012. The council passed the resolution.
