Oskaloosa Boys Stay Undefeated with Dramatic Home Wins, Girls Earn Split Against Newton and Pella Christian

The Oskaloosa boys bowling team stayed undefeated on the season with home wins over Newton and Pella Christian on Saturday, improving to 6-0 on the year. The Oskaloosa girls earned a split on the day, defeating Pella Christian and falling to Newton, and now sit at 5-2 on the season.

The boys’ match against Newton came down to the final Baker game in a back-and-forth battle. Newton opened the last Baker game with six straight strikes, while Oskaloosa struggled early and fell behind. Facing pressure, the Oskaloosa lineup responded when it mattered most. Starting in the fifth frame, the boys struck out, rolling five straight strikes to complete the comeback and win the match by just two pins.

Head coach Tony Witt said the team understood what was at stake and responded accordingly. He told the team they needed to strike out, and every bowler delivered under pressure. Coaches praised the group for staying composed and finishing strong to protect their undefeated record.

Individually, the Oskaloosa boys were led by senior Cole VanderWal, who posted the high two-game series of 422 and the high game of 231. Marshal Seibert followed with the second-highest two-game series at 417 and the second-highest game at 218. Keagan Pierson recorded the third-highest game with a 216 and added a 396 two-game series.

The Oskaloosa girls turned in their best total series of the season but came up short against a strong Newton squad. Despite the loss, the team continues to show steady improvement as the end of the season approaches.

Sidney Thompson led the girls with the top two-game series of 372 and rolled both of the team’s high games at 190 and 182. Faith Carmer added a 165 game, while Emma Ross recorded a 286 two-game series.

Both Oskaloosa teams will look to build on their momentum as the season continues, with the boys remaining unbeaten and the girls trending upward with consistent improvement.
