NM Game Cut Short

NEW SHARON – North Mahaska’s nonconference softball game against Pella Christian Tuesday was called early to lightning delays. The game, originally slated for 5:30 p.m., was delayed to 6:30 p.m. initially due to extreme heat.

By 5 p.m. storms in the area were causing delays. According to state athletic association protocols, a strike forces a 30 minute delay if the strike is determined to be within 10 miles. Lightning trackers continued to show action in the area and the game was finally able to begin about 6:55 p.m. The girls played three innings before it was determined the lightning was not going to let up. Although the game was not official and will not resume, Pella Christian was leading 8-4.

North Mahaska will return to action Wednesday when they face Pekin at 5:30 p.m.
