Oskaloosa Community Theater hosted a murder mystery based upon Alice in Wonderland on Saturday.

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The spooky time of year is upon us, and members of the Oskaloosa Community Theater helped to bring a classic tale to life on Saturday afternoon.

Rachel Singley and Allison McGuire were the two Oskaloosa Community Theater (OCT) members who helped to plan and coordinate the Murder in Wonderland and Victorian carnival held on the grounds of the former Vennard College.

October is the month the community theater has adopted to host events and invite others to join them. One of those favorite events held by OCT is murder mysteries, and Saturday opened another chapter in the bloody history of storytelling.

For Saturday, instead of actors being the suspects, community members themselves could be the suspects, and no rehearsal was required. Information on the parts was available upon arrival. Then the group would solve the murder of “who killed the caterpillar.”

The Victorian Carnival brought participants back in time to parlor games, such as Hide the Thimble, Are You There Moriarty?, among others.

The two simultaneous events allowed adults to enjoy the murder mystery and children to enjoy some games from years gone by.

The funds raised from events like those on Saturday help the group put on future events for the community.
