Marjorie F. McBurney, 93, of Oskaloosa, died Friday, January 8, 2016 at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. She was born January 25, 1922, in Mahaska County the daughter of Lee and Lillie Awtry Hite.

Marjorie graduated from Delta High School with the class of 1939. Following high school, she worked as a secretary and clerk at the old Woolworth Store in Oskaloosa.

On November 9, 1941, Marjorie was united in marriage to Roy E. McBurney at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Roy died August 12, 2003. Following her marriage to Roy Marjorie helped Roy on the farm and cared for her family.

Marjorie was a member of the Cedar United Methodist Church, Oskaloosa Women’s Club, P.E.O. Chapter IO, and 5:45 Club. She was also a past 4-H leader and life member. She delighted in spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed her flower and vegetable gardens, baking, cooking, and canning.

Her family includes her son and his wife, Larry and Sally McBurney of Odessa, Texas; three grandchildren: Michelle (& Bruce) Vander Meyden of Oskaloosa, Spencer (& Kelly) McBurney of Odessa, Texas, and Heather Brown of Oskaloosa; four great grandchildren: Mallory Vander Meyden, Jay Vander Meyden, McKenzie McBurney, and Conner McBurney; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents; two infant daughters; a sister, Ruby Brown; and two brothers, Raymond and Arthur Hite.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 15, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Bob Voels officiating.
Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Thursday after 10 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will at the funeral chapel from 5:30-7:30 to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to MHP Hospice Serenity House or Cedar United Methodist Church.
