Loren was born on May 31, 1936, in Iowa City, IA to Ray and Esther Gerard McClenathan. He was raised in Victor and graduated from Victor High School with the Class of 1954.
On May 31, 1956, he was married to Dorothy Mae Schaeffer at the Immanuel Methodist Church near Victor. The couple operated a farm near Victor until 1975. After leaving the farm he owned and operated Donutlands in Coralville and Iowa City. He also was a real estate agent for Iowa Realty and a trucker for Southwest Truck Lines. After his retirement the couple moved to the Nashville, TN area.
He is survived by his children, David (Dolores) McClenathan, Lynn (Lori) McClenathan and Carol (Rob) Thomason, all of Victor and Connie (Kenneth) Blomme of Ladora; 15 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren; one sister, Louise (David) Bastian of Victor and Kenneth (Sharon) McClenathan of Marshalltown.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
