Lola Campbell
Oskaloosa. Lola Campbell, 79, of Oskaloosa and formerly of Delta, died Monday, February 21, 2011, at her home in Oskaloosa. She was born on April 11, 1931, at New Sharon, Iowa, the daughter of Isaac and Gussie Cleo Osborn DeWeese. She grew up in the Rose Hill area and attended school at Delta and Oskaloosa. On June 7, 1949, she was united in marriage to Raymond H. Campbell at Oskaloosa; Raymond died February 6, 2007. Lola was a homemaker, she enjoyed being a mom and caring for her family. She did work outside the home from time to time; hanging wallpaper, and washing clothes and ironing for other people. She will be remembered for her kind spirit and her generosity. She was very talented at crafts; she donated many of her projects to hospitals and to the military. One of her many talents included quilting, she made many quilts that she gave to various organizations. She never passed up an opportunity to help, she maintained an open door policy at her home and everyone was always welcome. Lola loved spending time with her family; she was always up for whatever adventure they had planned. Early on she enjoyed bowling and camping. She was a very talented square dancer. Later in life she enjoyed researching family history and taking her crafts to the What Cheer Flea Market to sell. Lola was deeply patriotic; she gave generously of her handiwork and funds to help support the military. Her kindness and generosity was truly displayed when she organized a food and fund drive to help the people of South Carolina following Hurricane Hugo, not only did she collect the goods for donation but her family drove them to the affected area.
Her family includes three sons: Robert (& Vikki) Campbell of Eugene, Oregon, Dennis (& Sherry) Campbell of Delta, and David (& Rebecca McKinney) Campbell of What Cheer; her daughter: Lynn Keller of Des Moines; 20 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; two brothers: John DeWeese of Albia and Norman (& Ruth) DeWeese of Delta; two sisters: Norma Lee (& Jerry) Sparks of Marysville, Iowa and Karen (& Bill) Beauchat of Chillicothe, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Lola was preceded in death by her parents; two sons: Raymond Campbell and Gary Campbell; two daughters: Beverly Campbell and Kathy Noble; a grand daughter: Kelli Sue Perkins; a brother: Robert DeWeese; and four sisters: Sara, Dorothy, Opal, and Veda.
Funeral services for Lola Campbell will be held Friday, February 25, 2011, at 1 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Vince Homan officiating. Burial will be in the Springfield Cemetery near Delta. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin in the Bates Funeral Chapel on Thursday after 12noon, the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5 –7 to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to the Lola Campbell Memorial Fund.
