Laura Williams, 92 of New Sharon passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at her home in New Sharon. Laura Elizabeth Williams, the daughter of John and Icie (Wehrle) Clevenger, was born on November 5, 1924 in Taintor, Iowa.

Laura attended Granville Country School and graduated from New Sharon High School in 1942. On February 14, 1946, Laura was united in marriage to John Williams in New Sharon. To this union six children were born, Rachel, Ruth, Renata, John, Randy and Mark.

Laura was a homemaker and worked in the office at the North Mahaska School. She also was a nurses aid at a nursing home in Newton.

Laura married Keith Johnson on April 6, 2007 and they resided in Grinnell. Following his death in 2009, Laura moved back to New Sharon.

Laura was an avid reader and enjoyed quilting, crossword puzzles and watching murder mystery shows on T.V. Laura attended the New Sharon First Christian Church and was a past member of the West Liberty Church and the Fifty Plus Club.

Her memory will be honored by two sons: John Williams of Baxter and Mark (& Sherry) Williams of Altoona; 16 grandchildren: Danielle (& Chris) Simmons, Ericka (& Jody) Rhone, Kevin (& Keri) Lamberson, Curtis Lamberson, Darin (& Brenda) Boots, James Arnell, Alan Nell, John (& Bonnie) Williams, Ryan (& Brianna) Williams, Ashley (& Steve) Sapp, Rebecca Williams, Brandi Williams, Mallory (& Gage) Richardson, James Williams, Sarah (& Danny) Butrick and Dustin (& Jenni) Williams; 20 great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; a brother, Marlin Clevenger of Bellvadeer, South Carolina; three sisters: Doris Capell of Sacramento, CA, Caroldene Purdy of Chariton and Murldene Wyatt of Ulrich, MO; along with other relatives and friends.

Laura was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, John Williams and Keith Johnson; a son, Randy Williams; three daughters: Rachel Lamberson, Ruth Phillips and Renata Vairo; and two brothers, Alvin Clevenger and George Clevenger.

Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am Monday, February 27, 2017 at the New Sharon First Christian Church.
Interment will be held in the Highland Cemetery in New Sharon.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Monday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
