Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Osky Boys Baseball Team should think about a name change to the Cardiac Kids. For the second game in a row they’ve found a way to win the game in the last inning. This time over the Eddyville Rockets 6-3.

Osky seemed ready to go right out of the gates Friday night as they jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Nick Rutledge singled in the first then stole second and advanced to third before reading the pitcher perfectly and stole home for the game’s first run. Sr. Jesse Van Dalen took to the mound for the Indians and with a little help, on a beautiful play by Jr. second baseman Logan Lundsford, got out of the inning with the 1-0 lead.

Osky found the going good to begin the second inning as Sr. Travis Gile drew a one out walk and scored on a triple by So. Joey Sterner. Sterner then scored on a sac fly by Jr. Nate Van Veldhuizen for a 3-0 lead. That lead however was short lived as the Rockets took advantage of some Van Dalen walks, which lead to a big two out double that scored three runs to tie the score at 3-3 after two innings.

The middle part of the game was a back and forth affair as both teams left base runners and both Van Dalen and Lewie Winkleman of Eddyville made some big pitches to get out of trouble. The 6th inning brought on relief pitchers for both teams. Sr. Trevor Schwartz for Eddyville and Sr. Rutledge for Osky shut both teams down in the 6th, leading them into the 7th tied at 3-3.

A sharp single by Jr. Colton Swanson and a huge RBI triple by Sr. Travis Gile scored the go ahead run and Fr.Bennett Spry added some security to Osky’s lead as he had an RBI single. This put Osky up, with a 6-3 lead going into the bottom of the 7th. That’s when Rutledge slammed the door shut on Eddyville, as he struck out the side in the 7th to earn the win. Rutledge struck out the side in the 6th and 7th innings and looked like the dominant pitcher he was last season.

Osky is now 2-1 on the season and they play host to the Des Moines North Polar Bears in non-conference action Monday night in a JV/V double header.
