Larry Ford
Larry Ford, 72, of rural Oskaloosa, died Wednesday morning, November 16, 2011, at his home. He was born October 21, 1939 at Lockman, Iowa, the son of William A. and Myrtle White Ford. Early in his adult life, he was a mechanic at the old Lytle Motors in Oskaloosa and later worked in the painting department at PAMCO. Still later, he worked as a warehouse foreman at Clow Corp for 18 years. Larry retired in 2003 after 15 years at Vermeer Manufacturing. Larry was united in marriage to Sandy Robertson on April 6, 1982. He enjoyed working on cars; hunting and fishing; and playing music and played guitar and sang in the group Larry Ford and the Country Drifters for 27 years. He was a member of Good News Chapel and served as an elder for 4 years and drove the Sunday School and Gems vans, and helped with bible school.
His family includes his wife, Sandy Ford of Oskaloosa; three daughters: Ramona (& Tommy) Iseton and Samantha Ford, both of Oskaloosa, and Julie Ford of Bettendorf; four grandchildren: Kaylynn and Larissa Iseton; and Chanelle and Delilah Maxfield; a sister: Carolyn (& Bill) Allison of Milner, Georgia; a brother: Leonard (& Rita) Ford of Big Rock, Tennessee; and four sisters in law: Linda (& Rex) Wellman of Goodyear, Arizona, Linda Robertson of Delta, Carol Ford of Henderson, Kentucky and Rosemary Ford of Eddyville.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers: Don, Danny, Bill, Kenny, Clyde, Gary, and Rolan Ford; mother in law: Julia Robertson; brother in law: Kent Robertson; and his little buddy Oscar.
Funeral services will be held Friday, November 18, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating. Burial will be in the Beacon Cemetery at Beacon. Graveside Military Rites will be given by members of the Oskaloosa American Legion and V.F.W. Visitation will begin at the funeral chapel on Thursday after 11 a.m., and the family will be at the funeral chapel Thursday from 5 – 8 p.m. to greet friends and relatives. Memorial may be made to Good News Chapel or Iowa Hospice.
