Krause, Figy Win Weekly League Honors

Oskaloosa–Two Statesmen were integral parts in guiding their team to a perfect week and were lauded for their efforts as the Heart of America Athletic Conference Men’s Volleyball Player of the Week awards were announced Monday.

Landon Krause (So., Appleton, Wis., Sports Management) was named Attack of the Week, while Charlie Figy (So., Appleton, Wis., Sports Management) collected the Defender of the Week laurel. Krause is now a three-time weekly winner (second as Attacker), while Figy’s accolade is the third of his career (second this year). The duo helped William Penn to a 5-0 week, including going 4-0 at the first-ever William Penn Invitational.

Krause opened his week with 22 kills on a .625 attack clip against Clarke last Wednesday. He just missed a double-double with nine digs, while adding three block assists and two aces. He then reached the double-double plateau against both Morningside (12 kills, 10 digs) and Goshen (10 kills, 11 digs). The sophomore owned a .429 clip versus Morningside and then hit .600 against Goshen.

For the year, he has recorded 214 kills (3.57 per set) on a .421 attack percentage. Krause has also produced 92 digs, 45 blocks, 39 aces, and 13 assists.

Figy was excellent on the other side of the net, finishing with 16 total blocks (two solos, 14 assists), beginning with three assists versus Clarke. Then three days later, he was a force against all three foes, including being a part of five stops versus Central Christian (Kan.) and six against Goshen.

In addition to his defensive prowess, the sophomore added 27 kills (.426 attack) with five aces and four digs.

Figy currently has 67 blocks (nine solos, 58 assists, 1.14 per set) to his credit. He has also managed 98 kills (.409 attack) with 13 aces, 15 digs, and three assists.

The awards are the fifth and sixth for WPU this year.
